Love WordPress News, but hate reading? My name is Doc and this Doc Pop’s News Drop.

I’m here in Nashville for WordCamp US 2018. WordPress version 5.0 with the Gutenberg editor went live on December 6th, the day before WCUS began. So that has obviously been a huge topic this year. Though many talked about a gutenpocalypse, the actual release seemed to go rather smoothly. It was like worrying about the Y2K bug all over again.
I’ve been shooting a ton of interviews this weekend, so be sure to check our WCUS playlist on our youtube channel for lots of hot takes and opinions from folks like JJJ, Mor10, and Joost.
In 2016 we were talking about the REST API, 2017 we talked about accessibility, 2018 was the year of the Gutenberg, and I think the hot topic of 2019 is going to be all about Open Source Governance. It came up in some of the talks on Saturday morning, but as the weekend kept going I heard about it more and more. What are the best ways to make decisions in a large open source community? How can WordPress better use data to drive decisions for the future? Who owns the data WordPress collects?
